Global Internship Program
What is it?
The ASU Global Internship Program (GIP) is an initiative created by Paulo Vasconcelos (Global Ambassador) after realizing the difficulty that students have in landing an internship abroad. Now, ASU is one of the few universities that offer programs like this, joining an elite group of institutions including Yale, Harvard, UPenn, Stanford and Georgia Tech.

As an international student (from Brazil) in the United States and under a F-1 student visa, Paulo had several restrictions and obstacles in getting an internship in America. He also realized that other international students were having the same problem. In addition, he observed that many US nationals wanted to get an internship abroad and they did not know how. Then, he created this program to open opportunities all over the world for Sun Devils, promoting internships, research programs and even full-time jobs.

It has started with his position of Global Ambassador/Peer Mentor of the Engineering Residential Community, when he mentored the first Sun Devil (a student from Malaysia) to get an internship in Brazil. Now, the program has expanded, with an official page here on the International Student Portal, job postings on Handshake and mentoring sessions.

The program has several resources embedded on this website, and in addition to that, it accounts with '1-on-1 meetings' with Paulo at Tooker House, which may help one create or upgrade resumes, write cover letters, search international internships, check paperwork, anything. Moreover, the program uses the expertise of the ASU Career Center, Fulton Career Center, and the Study Abroad Office.
